Trashiyangtse Lacquered Dapa Woodcraft Workshop
About this experience
"Trashiyangtse craftsmen are Bhutan's foremost producers of dapa — the distinctive lacquered wooden bowls used at royal banquets and ceremonial occasions, recognised among Bhutan's thirteen traditional arts. Workshop visits observe master turners shaping bowls on foot-powered pole-lathes from seasoned wood blanks, then applying successive layers of traditional lacquer derived from local tree sap. Guests try the hand-turning process under guidance and examine completed bowls' distinctive red-and-black lacquer finish at the craftsman's studio."
