Jambay Lhakhang Drup Fire Festival
About this experience
"Jambay Lhakhang, built in 659 AD by Emperor Songtsen Gampo to pin a demoness, hosts one of Bhutan's most mystical annual festivals. The Drup features a midnight naked fire dance — the Tercham — believed to ward off evil spirits, elaborate Black Hat rituals, and sacred Cham masked dances performed by resident monks. Pilgrims travel days on foot to witness the sacred relics. The Tercham's rare, hypnotic intensity and the flickering torchlight procession make this an utterly singular cultural event."
