Gangtey Tshechu Black-Necked Crane Festival
About this experience
"The Black-Necked Crane Festival at Gangtey Monastery celebrates the annual arrival of the endangered cranes to Phobjikha Valley from the Tibetan Plateau. Local school pupils perform elaborate crane dances in full costume, village troupes present folk music and archery demonstrations, and certified crane interpreters guide guests to valley-floor observation points where real cranes feed in the potato fields below the monastery. The festival is staged in Gangtey's courtyard with the crane congregation visible in the valley below."
