Paro Tshechu Thongdrel Unfurling Festival
About this experience
"Paro Tshechu, held annually over five days at Rinpung Dzong, is one of Bhutan's most celebrated religious festivals, drawing thousands of pilgrims in ceremonial dress from across the kingdom. Sacred Cham masked dances enact scenes from Guru Rinpoche's life across the dzong's sunlit courtyard over four days. The climax arrives before dawn on the final morning when monks unfurl the massive Guru Rinpoche Thongdrel — a silk applique thangka filling the dzong's entire facade — blessing all who witness its brief, radiant display."
