Our Story
"Bhutan Upward Travels was born from founder Lhamchu Delma’s deep love for Bhutanese culture and her wish to share it with the world in a genuine way. As an educator who has long valued meaningful connection, she wanted travellers to experience Bhutan beyond the usual routes through its living traditions, warm hospitality, and the quiet beauty of everyday life. She brought together a small team of like-minded people who share the same spirit: a genuine passion for travel, respect for local culture, and a commitment to creating thoughtful journeys. Guides, storytellers, and companions who care deeply about the land and its people now work alongside her to shape every experience. "Ms. Lhamchu Delma is the founder and guiding force behind Bhutan Upward Travels, bringing about more than 14 years of professional experience in teaching and management. Under her leadership, the company crafts meaningful travel experiences that reflect Bhutan’s values of Gross National Happiness, sustainability, and genuine human connection. Alongside her entrepreneurial vision, Ms Delma is a Senior Lecturer who holds an M.A. in English and a TESOL Professional Certificate. She is deeply committed to holistic student development through a student-centred pedagogy that builds trust and creates engaging, supportive learning environments. Her teaching philosophy centres on instilling a lifelong love of learning and cultivating a deep appreciation for the English language and literature as vital sources of global connection and wisdom. Her professional expertise is reflected in a diverse teaching portfolio that spans academic instruction, international test preparation (IELTS, TOEFL,and PTE), and specialised professional training. Notably, she served as a Guest Lecturer at the Royal Institute of Management in Thimphu, where she delivered a Communication Skills module to RCSC-selected graduates during Winter 2024. Through Bhutan Upward Travels and her work in education, Ms Lhamchu Delma continues to bridge cultures, helping both students and travellers discover new perspectives, build meaningful connections, and experience the transformative power of language, learning, and the Land of the Thunder Dragon."
