Chorten Kora Grand Stupa Pilgrimage Circuit
About this experience
"Chorten Kora, a massive whitewashed stupa modelled on Nepal's Boudhanath and built in 1740 near Trashiyangtse town, is the focal point of two major annual pilgrimage gatherings. Outside festival season, the chorten draws daily circumambulants — elderly monks, village women, and schoolchildren — spinning the perimeter prayer wheels and lighting butter lamps at shrine alcoves. Visitors join the circumambulation, learning the significance of each architectural element of the stupa's mandala symbolism from a resident monk."
